What is it all about?

My aim is to build community around medicinal forest gardening in the broadest sense, from foraging to growing and harvesting right through to making and using herbal remedies in a safe way. We have to get wise about our planet and our health, and we need to find ways of obtaining more sustainable resources for healing. Medicinal forest gardening fits in well with other sustainable solutions for the planet. You can be part of a community of people who share your interests.

Who am I?

I am a medical herbalist, author, herb grower, teacher and historical researcher. Previously, I directed the professional programme for clinical herbal practitioners at Middlesex University, UK. My research interests span from domestic medicine in the early modern period to present-day sustainable supplies of herbal medicine. My publications include Household Medicine in Seventeenth-Century England, (Bloomsbury Academic, 2016), The Medicinal Forest Garden Handbook (Permanent Publications, 2020) and Trees and Shrubs That Heal: Reconnecting With the Medicinal Forest (Permanent Publications, 2023). I cofounded the Holt Wood Herbs project in Devon based on permaculture design principles, transforming a redundant conifer plantation into a thriving medicinal forest garden. Now I am developing the Medicinal Forest Garden Trust and working on several  medicinal forest garden projects. I have set up some short online courses including ones on harvest, design, and the healing properties of trees and shrubs.

What will be included?

For all subscribers I will be including monthly posts on medicinal forest gardening about tree and shrub species, growing and harvesting herbal remedies, permaculture projects and botanical places of interest. From time to time I will add snippets of herbal history and research. Paying subscribers will also get the inside story on making herbal remedies and products which I will be compiling for a future book. I’ll offer the opportunity for Paid and Founder subscribers to be more involved as a community, helping me to develop the Medicinal Forest Garden Trust. As a Paid subscriber you can also access the online Medicinal Forest Garden Harvest course at half price. For Founder subscribers there will be an opportunity to book a personal session to discuss your plans whether you are developing a medicinal forest garden, growing and cultivating herbs, looking to further your training, developing a business with herbs, or other related topics.
